Word in Your Hand REVISITED

Word In Your Hand: A World Diabetes Day project from Tu Diabetes on Vimeo.

A couple of years ago the folks at Tu Diabetes put out the call for photos to make a video to increase awareness. They asked people with diabetes to write a word on their hand. The word reflected what that person thought of when they thought of diabetes.

Why hands you might ask? Because hands are what you use to reach out. Hands are what you use to hold on. And hands are what you use to test your blood glucose—several times each day.

Words like “endless,” “complicated,” “tired” and “weak” reflect the frustration and discouragement of dealing with a chronic illness. But words like “cure,” “esperanza (hope),” and “balance” reflect a coping outlook.

What word would you write on your hand?
