Good Idea: Chew Gum

Chewing sugar-free gum is a good alternative to snacking.

Sugarless gum has fewer calories than almost every snack. It’s considered a “free” food. It satisfies that need to chew. And, if you believe the packaging, it taste like desert?

Dave brought home Extra brand sugarless gum that called itself  “Dessert Delights.” I tried the Key Lime Pie and Strawberry Shortcake—with mixed results. The Key Lime has a strong lime flavor at first, but it died away in less than 10 minutes. The Strawberry Shortcake had a weird taste; it was sort of sweet but not really like strawberries. After chewing for a few minutes I had a Willy Wonka experience with it. The flavor changed and seemed more like Cool Whip.

Was it like eating the real thing? No.

But I would choose (and chew) the Key Lime Pie flavor again. Even with the flavor fading away it was a satisfying chew that kept my stomach from grumbling. I like this especially when it’s close to mealtime.

What flavor would get you chewing sugarless gum instead of having a snack?
